Business Aviation Services’ new general aviation terminal and hangar at Joe Foss Field in Sioux Falls, SD, offers an innovative look that is in keeping with the company’s progressive image and commitment to the community.
The exterior of the 42,000 sq. ft. facility is highlighted with 7,500 sq. ft. of Tegola zinc-titanium Compact Tiles from Petersen Aluminum. The large dimension ZT tiles consist of eight layers of different materials and are 5mm thick.
According to project architect Dick Dempster, Architecture Incorporated, Sioux Falls, “The owners recognized that the facility provided the first and last impression of their business and of the community for people who fly in and out on commuter and corporate jets. Architectural emphasis was placed at the entrances to the building from both the public street side as well as the apron side. The Petersen Tegola zinc-titanium panels will develop a gray-blue patina that will give the opaque walls of the building a pleasing texture and color to contrast with the glass curtainwall.”
Installation of the ZT Compact Tiles was done by Guarantee Roofing & Sheet Metal of South Dakota, Sioux Falls. According to Harry Brinkerhoff, president of Guarantee, “This was our first experience with the Tegola tiles although we’ve installed lots of Petersen standing seam and flat sheet products over the years. Installing the Tegola was no big challenge although I do believe it requires a little more finesse on a wall application than a roof.”
The general contractor on the job was Swift Contractors Inc., Sioux Falls.
Tegola Tiles do not require any special equipment to install. In addition to the Tegola ZT Compact Tiles, copper clad Tegola Prestige Tiles are also available.
