432 Park Avenue

Window Grid On World's Tallest Residential Tower Features Coatings By PPG

For nearly 50 years, Duranar® coatings by PPG have protected and beautified famous structures such as the Louvre Pyramid, so it is fitting that the product was specified on 432 Park Avenue in New York, which opened in 2016 as the tallest residential tower in the world.

Designed by noted architect Rafael Viñoly, the 96-story skyscraper features a lattice-like network of aluminum window wall systems finished with Duranar Sunstorm® Gray Mica and Sunlight Silver coatings applied by aluminum extruder and paint applicator Keymark Corp., Fonda, New York. Aluminum curtainwall manufacturer Enclos Corp., New York, engineered, manufactured and installed the punched window wall systems, which encompass more than 1,800 individual window units.

Because Duranar coatings' molecular structure is invulnerable to the effects of ultraviolet (UV) light, salt spray, acid rain, corrosive chemicals and other environmental stresses on color and gloss, they offered a perfect solution for this unique building. Their extraordinary durability and color and gloss retention have made Duranar coatings popular for use in many notable New York projects, such as window-replacement projects on the Empire State and Flatiron buildings.

Duranar Sunstorm coatings feature pearlescent effect pigments in the color coat, which enables them to achieve a metalescent look without the addition of aluminum flake.

Sunstorm is a registered trademark of PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.
