Antelope Valley College Agricultural Labs And Greenhouse Building

Morin Single Element Metal Panels Help Antelope Valley College Expand Campus

Morin, a Kingspan Group Company, recently supplied wall panels from its Integrity Series for the new Agricultural Labs and Greenhouse Building at Antelope Valley College. Located in Lancaster, CA, the college first opened its doors in September of 1929 with 13 students and a vision of providing “a quality, comprehensive education for a wide variety of learners.” Today the college provides educational opportunities to 16,000 students.

To construct the $7.3 million building, MORIN's Integrity Series X-12, XA-12 and XC-12 profiles were applied to the exterior. Both the XA-12 and XC-12 panels were provided in an 18-gauge steel substrate with a custom Silver Alfredo paint finish. Versatile and durable, MORIN’s Integrity Series Wall Panels are designed to provide increased aesthetic appeal in any application. Panels are available in a variety of coatings, colors and profiles to meet the design needs of today’s challenging architecture.

Midstate Sheetmetal Inc., located in Bakersfield, California, installed the MORIN products. Bill Bautista, the project installer, explained that on projects like the Antelope Valley College Agriculture Labs and Greenhouse building, he researches products with the highest rating and selects accordingly. In this case, MORIN products achieved the highest rating. “And we weren’t disappointed,” Bautista added. “The products worked well to address the challenges of the different outcroppings and multi-angled aspects of the building.”

In addition to upholding its long-standing dedication to educational opportunities, Antelope Valley College also sought to fulfill their commitment to the environment through this project. They took care to incorporate many sustainable aspects into the new building. These included lighting control, an energy management system, lighting sensors, LED exit signs and Low-E glass windows. MORIN’s panels also played a role in the building’s overall sustainability as they are 100% recyclable and contribute towards the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) credits. Construction of the new Agricultural Labs and Greenhouse Building was completed in August of 2009 – almost 80 years from the day the college first opened its doors.

“I was very happy with the final project,” said Bautista. “This is the first time I used MORIN, but I’d be quick to work with them again. Their products were excellent and I really appreciated the communication and support I received from MORIN sales representatives along the way.”

Sam Kamand, the architect from California-based Klassen Corporation, also affirmed the teamwork that led to the success of the Antelope Valley College project. “The owner and project manager worked as a team to ensure the successful completion of the project. The building design highlights what Antelope Valley College values: educational opportunities and commitment to the environment. Overall, everyone was pleased with the result,” said Kamand.
