Butler Metal Building System Used In Construction Of Family-Owned Furniture Chain's New Superstore

Ron Bailey and his parents started a small used furniture store in 1990 in Anchorage, AK. Within the same year, they relocated and began selling new furniture with the used inventory. The retailer now has seven stores and even a custom furniture manufacturing facility that produces office and institutional furnishings and storage solutions.

The company took its concept to an even higher level with the recent completion of a 120,000-sq.-ft. Bailey's superstore in Anchorage. It is the largest furniture outlet in the state and features room settings, artistic décor, a 2-story indoor waterfall, a skylight, and high-cube rack storage in the warehouse space.

Thomas Faulkenberry & Associates, AIA, Architects, designed the building, with McGee Industries, a Butler Builder® serving the market area, serving as the builder. Butler products utilized for the superstore's construction include a Widespan™ structural system, MR-24® and VSR™ standing seam metal roof systems, and Shadowall™ and Flat Stylwall® wall panel systems. Both were provided in a Birch White color to complement the EIFS. Given the extreme climate, the roof incorporates 12-1/2" of fiberglass insulation and the walls have a 6" thermal barrier of fiberglass insulation.
