CAMC Cancer Center

Architectural Metal Panels From CENTRIA Fit The Bill For New Medical Facility

Located directly across from Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Memorial Hospital, the new CAMC Cancer Center is West Virginia’s leading provider of cancer services, offering the highest level of care in a supportive environment. The innovative facility, architectural metal wall panels by CENTRIA, opened its doors in late 2015.

With an infusion center, radiology, radiation oncology, chemotherapy and a breast cancer center all located within the three-story building, CAMC Canter Center also offers amenities such as an outdoor terrace and a 4,000 square-foot healing garden for its patients.

In addition to the 22 exam rooms and 32 infusion bays, the $50 million facility features a café with a multi-purpose room behind it used for support groups, yoga and educational sessions, while an on-site pharmacy makes filling prescriptions convenient. A boutique allows patients to get manicures, pedicures, wigs and specialty items.

Tasked with constructing West Virginia’s leading provider of cancer services, Stantec, a leading architectural and design firm, needed products that would match the hospital’s excellent reputation. Renowned for their sustainability, CENTRIA’s metal panels fit the bill for the 110,000 square-foot project.

Known for its pleasing aesthetic along with thermal efficiency and moisture control capabilities, CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal panel system was ideal for the brand new CAMC Cancer Center. Lightweight in nature, the panels are quick and easy to install, requiring minimal framing.

Providing maximum thermal performance and moisture control, Formawall Dimension Series horizontal panels include a factory foam-insulated core, minimizing insulation gaps, along with a thermal break between the face and the liner. The Formawall panels take insulated metal panels to new heights with their superior weather resistance and pressure equalization along the length of the horizontal joinery.

The IW Series concealed fastener panels are a perfect blend of aesthetic design and easy installation. With a common lock-joint design that makes interesting visual effects, IW Series panels boast a clean and unbroken aesthetic in numerous stucco embossed or smooth finishes. IW series panels have the capability to be installed both horizontally and vertically. Additionally, the panels can be installed year-round in any climate, significantly cutting down on time required for the installation process.

The architect was Stantec of Pittsburgh, PA; the CENTRIA products dealer/installer was Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal of Wheeling, WV; and serving as contractor was Maynard C. Smith Construction Company Inc. of Charleston, WV.

The 110,000 sq. ft. medical facility was completed in 2015.
