Christopher S. Bond Learning Center

Agricultural Learning Center Grows With The Aid Of CENTRIA

The Christopher S. Bond Learning Center is the newest addition to the William H. Darr Agricultural Center, located on the Springfield campus of Missouri State University. The Agricultural Center currently serves as a laboratory and field experience classroom for the study of livestock management, horticulture, animal science, wildlife conservation and other agricultural studies. CENTRIA products are featured on this project.

The new Christopher S. Bond Learning Center features state-of-the-art amenities designed to facilitate student learning regarding the agricultural and environmental processes that shape our world. The building includes new classrooms, a classroom/lecture hall equipped with an animal entrance and specialized pen, high-tech lab facilities, and a conference space/banquet hall for 400 people. The facility contains many eco-conscious features, including occupancy sensors that control lighting and heating, abundant use of natural light, and a special ground source heat pump mechanical system that absorbs heat from 200 feet below the surface. The center is currently pursuing LEED® Silver certification.

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series provides advanced thermal and moisture protection (ATMP®) in a single panelized component, decreasing both installation time and expense. Featuring a factory foamed-in-place core that minimizes insulation gaps, Formawall Dimension Series panels also reduce overall material use, limiting environmental impact. In addition, CENTRIA sheet metal products are 100 percent recyclable and contain a high percentage of recycled material.

Along with sustainability features, Formawall panels create an aesthetically pleasing, exceptionally smooth building surface with mitered corner details and a concealed fastener system that produces clean, sharp lines and corners. The panels are available in flat and embossed surface treatments and can be curved or formed into a variety of shapes for design flexibility.

Formawall’s unique design also offers other benefits, including a thermal break between the panel face and liner that leads to efficient “U” values; high strength steel panels that offer increased spanning capabilities and save on support costs; airtight construction that reduces energy consumption; trimless ends that eliminate the requirement for extrusions or trims at panel joints, windows and other openings; and the availability of integrated windows, louvers and solar shading.

MetalWrap Series, an insulated composite backup panel that acts as a single thermal, air and moisture barrier backup system, also utilizes ATMP building envelope technology. Because it’s a single panel, MetalWrap Series eliminates the need for conventional batt or board installation, exterior gypsum board, and air, water, and vapor boards. With three different versions designed for use with metal, brick, or terra cotta, MetalWrap offers the flexibility that makes it the perfect solution for either single-exterior or mixed-medium buildings.

The project architect was The Clark Enersen Partners of Kansas City, MO; the CENTRIA products dealer was SGH Inc. of Riverside, MO; the CENTRIA products installer was Artisan Construction Services Inc. of Springfield, MO; and the contractor was DeWitt & Associates Inc. of Springfield, MO. The total project measured 40,000 sq. ft.
