EnerMax Office Building

Reynobond ACM Gives Modern Quality To Rustic Building Design

Modern and rustic. Many buildings could be described as one or the other but very few could be called both. Count the new EnerMax office building in Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada in that latter category. With its heavy exterior stone accents and tower forms it appears almost castle-like. But clad predominantly with Reynobond® aluminum composite material and glass, it is also clearly contemporary.

Working closely with the building’s owner, the 16,000 sq. ft. structure was collaboratively designed by Camdon Construction and Cognidyn Engineering and Design, both of Red Deer, Alberta. Camdon also handled the general contracting duties.

The metal panels and intricate detail elements for the project were fabricated from Reynobond aluminum composite material by Krisro Metal Industries of Beamsville, Ontario, Canada. Barrie Metro Glass Inc. of Barrie, Ontario, handled the installation. The Reynobond material, consisting of two sheets of .020” aluminum bonded to a polyethylene core, was manufactured in the United States by Alcoa Architectural Products USA. To best complement the stone and a match the curtain wall framing the ACM was provided with a custom Vancouver Copper Duranar XL paint finish by PPG Industries.

In addition to panel flatness, formability is one of the key characteristics of aluminum composite material. And its capabilities were put to the test on the EnerMax project since the material wraps numerous curved elements and creates the multi-tiered crown moulding used around the canopies, parapets, entries and above the curtain wall.

The building was completed in February 2009.
