HOG Cancer Treatment Center

Citadel Panels Strike The Right Chord In Cancer Treatment Center's Welcoming Design

A diagnosis of cancer always brings with it a certain level of worry and uncertainty. How could it not? That why the doctors group behind the new Highlands Oncology Group Cancer Treatment Center in Rogers, AR, wanted their building to create a pleasant, welcoming environment. To that end, the building needed to have just the right look. After all, first impressions are important and new patients want to feel like they are getting the best possible treatment. Through the specification of Citadel wall panels on the building’s exterior, the building succeeds at sending that message.

Core Architects of Rogers designed the two-story facility which offers diagnostic and treatment areas on the first floor and a 5,000 sq. ft. chemotherapy suite, complete with four private treatment rooms, on the second. The project required special construction measures due to the necessary seven-foot-thick walls and roof and neutron-shielded doors for radiation absorption.

The exterior of the building includes 15,000 sq. ft. of Citadel’s Envelope 2000® metal composite material (MCM) to create aesthetic appeal as well as meet budget requirements. The Citadel panels were installed using the Reveal (RV) System, a field-assembled attachment method utilizing perimeter moldings.

According to Core Architects president Robert Kelly, “Before we got involved, the owners had originally involved a design/build firm that couldn’t bring the project in on budget. Working closely with Crossland Construction Company, the GC, we redesigned the project and not only brought it in ‘on the money’ but also gave the owners more square footage. The Citadel cladding, along with other elements, helped do that.”

Approximately 300 Citadel panels were installed on the upper areas of the building and interface with brick at the base. “We wanted the building to have a clean and sophisticated look,” Kelly said. “The Citadel panels helped accentuate the design vision.”

The Citadel panels were installed by Crossland Construction Company, Inc., Columbus, KS. The Citadel sales representative was J.D. Day & Company, Overland Park, KS.
