Formability Makes SAF ACM Panel System An Ideal Choice For Bank's Drive-Thru

Formability ranks high on any list of the key attributes of aluminum composite material (ACM). The ability of the material to be effectively used on both sweeping curves and tight bends is a testament to that quality, and was a contributing factor in the material’s selection for the exterior of the drive-thru canopy at the new IBC Bank headquarters building in Oklahoma City, OK.

The bank was designed by WKMC Architects Inc, which has offices in Dallas, Austin and Corpus Christi, Texas. For the drive-thru portion of the project the architect specified a Series NM-500 composite panel system by SAF Metal Fabrication of Villa Rica, GA. The system’s panels fabricated from 4mm Reynobond with a polyethylene (PE) core and Platinum mica paint finish. Handling the installation was the George Knox Glass Co. of Oklahoma City.

“The canopy covered nearly 1,500 sq. ft. of the underside and sides of the drive-thru structure,” said Nic Marino, SAF Project Manager. “Most of the canopy consisted of flat ceiling panels, however the sides were a challenge due to the taper of the panels and the pontoon “prow” on the front of the canopy. The two front corners were a particular engineering challenge due to their size at over 140”, and the placement of stiffeners and reinforcing bands in the curved shape. With the expert installation the finished product is a testament to quality craftsmanship and installation.
