Region Of Peel - West Brampton Reservoir And Pumping Station

Aluminum Roofing From Garland Selected For Pumping Station

The City of Brampton located in the Region of Peel near Toronto, Ontario, Canada has experienced rapid growth in recent years, averaging a population increase of 20,000 people per year for several years. The large influx of people moving into the area spurred the construction of a new water storage facility and pumping station on the western edge of the region to accommodate the growing population. Roofing materials from The Garland Company Inc. played a prominent role in the project.

Region officials wanted to ensure the new facility would have a long-term, high-performance roofing solution capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions. In addition to the performance requirements, region officials also wanted the architecture to blend in with the surrounding rural area. In keeping with the interests of the region, the architectural firm designed the facility to resemble a modernized version of an old-fashioned barn.

A Garland standing seam metal system was chosen for this project for its strength, versatility, and industry-leading performance in windstorm and water penetration resistance. The versatility of the 18-inch, .040-inch aluminum R-Mer® Span panels provided the architectural firm with a wide range of design options. The aluminum panels also provided the durability and strength needed for a long-term, high-performance solution. Due to the various changes in plane on the 20,000-square-foot roof, knee joints were engineered on site, providing continuous 65-foot panels and ensuring superior watertight protection.

Both the metal and buried roofing portions of this high-performance roofing solution were provided by Garland as a single full-service manufacturer and are covered by a 25-year warranty. There was a total of 90,000 sq. ft. – including 20,000 sq. ft. of metal roofing and 70,000 sq. ft. of buried water reservoir.

The general contractor was King City Group, Ltd. of Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. The material supplier was Garland Canada Inc. of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The architect was Brown + Storey Architects, Inc. of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
