Englert Metal Roof Tops Newly Expanded Virginia Library

The Rust Library renovation and expansion in Leesburg, Virginia added 15,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art library space to an existing 23,000 square foot building. The renovation included a new children’s area that is twice the size of the old and was designed with young people in mind. A specials story time room was added for an early literacy development programming. A 4,000 square foot teen library zone features 28 computers, a specialized collection and comfortable furniture. The library also increased its meeting room space with audio-visual capabilities and added a variety of individual and group study spaces and public Internet computers and wireless access throughout the building.

The original design called for a tapered roof but the execution would have been expensive, time consuming and difficult. Roofing Contractor Attila Buri of ATI Roofing in Sterling, VA came up with an alternate plan, creating what appeared to be a tapered roof without cutting panels into infinitesimal widths. Instead, he angle cut the panels to fit the angle of the building columns, then buried his straight panels in a roof cap. Smaller cuts at the base of the panels were covered with hip caps to give the entire design a uniform tapered appearance and to handle drainage. Buri used 45,000 square feet of an Englert Series 1300 profile to complete the new metal roof. The result is a patina green standing seam metal roof that looks tapered without cutting tapered panels. General Contractor on the project was Waynesboro Construction of Leesburg.
