To meet the increasing demand for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, SK Battery America has established a new production facility in Commerce, GA. This leading developer of such batteries has invested 2.6 billion dollars in constructing two manufacturing plants. Spanning across a vast area of 2.4 million square feet, equivalent to 13 football fields, the facility is massive. By the end of 2023, it is expected to provide employment to 3,000 individuals. These plants will manufacture batteries that will power the new Ford F-150 Lightning and Volkswagen ID4.

As customers increasingly seek sustainable and cost-effective solutions, the building industry is also shifting towards more efficient practices. Kingspan insulated metal panels are an excellent solution for reducing a building's energy usage and carbon footprint, thanks to their airtight, highly efficient envelope that minimizes thermal bridging. Moreover, Kingspan IMPs contribute to the circular economy by incorporating recycled materials into the manufacturing process and can be disassembled and recycled at the end of their life.

For the SK Battery facility, designed by MAP Hanterin and constructed by Clayco, 456,000 sq.ft. of Kingspan KS Micro-Rib insulated metal panels with QuadCore® were utilized, leveraging Kingspan's latest generation of insulation technology.

The Kingspan KS line of panels is ideal for large-scale projects like the SK Battery plant, providing advantages in speed of construction while also offering architectural flexibility. With Kingspan's QuadCore insulation core, the panels are 11% more thermally efficient than PIR and up to 60% more thermally efficient than PUR cores. Additionally, QuadCore offers superior fire protection, having passed the NFPA 285 standard.

The projected growth of EV manufacturing will enable the production of between 10 and 13 million electric vehicles annually in the United States by 2030, making the U.S. a competitive player on the global stage.
