The Hayner Hoyt Corporation of Syracuse, N.Y. was awarded the American Buildings Company (ABC) 2016 Building of the Year Award for its work on the Syracuse University Ensley Athletic Center building, a 95,149 sq. ft. recreation building with an interior clearance that peaks at 65 ft.

The project overcame many challenges, not the least of which was a grueling and exceptionally cold winter in Central New York. The exterior of the building features a plaza with statues that are homage to Syracuse University legends and iconic #44 jersey bearers Jim Brown, Floyd Little and Ernie Davis.

The highly anticipated Excellence in Design Awards competition is open to all authorized ABC builders and Architectural Metal Systems (AMS) roofers. Winners were selected by an independent panel of judges.

For the 2016 awards, judges chose from 140 entries and selected the best projects in each of the following categories: Agricultural; Auto Dealerships; Church/Religious Center; Commercial; Government/Institutional; Manufacturing/Industrial; Office; Recreation; Retail; Roofing; Special Projects; Transportation; and Warehouse/Distribution. Winners and honorable mentions were announced for each category and eligible to compete for the Excellence in Design top award: 2016 Building of the Year.
