When an explosion destroyed the entire elevator that was used to move grain in Sedan, Nebraska, Aurora Co-Op called McPherson Concrete Storage Systems Inc. in McPherson, Kansas to get the adjacent tank ready in time for fall harvest. McPherson had approximately one week to be onsite and install all new roof on the jump-form concrete silo that was damaged by debris from the explosion.
The project used products from Vulcraft, a producer of steel joists, steel joist girders and steel decking in the United States. Working with Gerard Tank, they were able to lift the entire roof at once and pour a concrete cap in order to get the facility up and running again.
For their work on the project, McPherson Concrete Storage Systems was recognized as a winner of the 2014 NuHeights Design Awards by Vulcraft/Verco Group. The NuHeights Design Awards recognize outstanding design, architecture and the diverse applications of building with steel.
