RHEINZINK® Highlights Mixed-Material Application

Approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of modular wall panels fabricated from Reynobond® Zinc Composite Material (ZCM) highlight a striking design for the two-story addition to the City of Beachwood, OH Municipal Complex. The 4mm zinc composite is manufactured by Alcoa Architectural Products and utilizes RHEINZINK® preweathered blue-gray finish.

The Complex, which houses various city offices in addition to the police department, includes a variety of complementary building materials. From the suspended wood ceiling found in the main foyer to the RHEINZINK and various natural stone products on the exterior, the building is rich in finishes.

The Reynobond ZCM panels combine the natural beauty of zinc with the flatness, durability and ease of fabrication that Reynobond ACM is known for.

Design of the building was provided by City Architecture, Cleveland, OH. According to Benny Chew, project designer and manager, “One of the visions was to create an enduring, modern design that would reflect the city’s affluence and modern nature. We considered a wide range of metal materials and quickly eliminated those that seemed to be too commonly used. We really wanted something distinctive. The RHEINZINK bluish gray color appealed to us immediately as a nice counterpart to the grey and brown stone and granite. At the same time, we wanted to create an earth-like feel. The zinc gets a nice patina that makes it more earth-bound rather than something a little bit too machine-like. Overall, the innovative mix of building materials creates a unique sense of place that is truly reflective of the city.”

The ZCM panels were fabricated by Riverside Group, Windsor, Ontario and installed by Pharro Glass, Berea, OH. The general contractor on the project was Dunlop & Johnston, Inc., Valley City, OH.
