Runnebohm Construction, an American Buildings Company (ABC) Authorized Builder, in partnership with the Franklin Redevelopment Commission and the Johnson County Development Corporation, completed construction of the Franklin Shell Building in Franklin, Indiana. The building is 51,350 sq. ft. with the ability to expand to 130,000 sq. ft. The build-out options allow the structure to fit a wide variety of potential tenants.
Located on an 11.19 acre site in the Franklin Business Park, the facility features a custom engineered metal building with a precast concrete, hardwall façade on two sides with glass entry features and metal walls on the other sides to allow for easy expansion of the building. Metal with a masonry wainscot was utilized in the dock area to allow for the addition of future docks. The wall panels are a warm white Architectural III panel with Galvalume® Standing Seam 360 roof panels.
A custom engineered metal building was selected for this project in order to economically increase clear spans within the building and reduce the need for an additional column row. The structure and the metal walls allow for easy expansion and the ability to add additional dock doors and drive-in doors. Use of a custom metal building also allowed for use of a standing seam metal roof for added durability and life span over other roofing systems.
For their work on the project, Runnebohm was awarded first place in the 2014 ABC Excellence in Design Awards in the Warehouse/Distribution category. The ABC Excellence in Design Awards program recognizes builders and roofers for their innovation in design and metal systems construction.
