The Hilton Baltimore Hotel lies in the Inner Harbor area, a prime business, historic and cultural district in downtown Baltimore, Maryland, adjacent to the Baltimore Convention Center with direct covered access via pedestrian sky bridge. The 24-story hotel was constructed to bring additional tourism to the area.
The Hilton Baltimore Hotel’s exterior features more than 200,000 square feet of CENTRIA metal panels. The building’s off-white and silver hues give the hotel a modern and upscale appearance and help it blend seamlessly with the connecting Convention Center.
The wavy corrugations of Econolap ¾” provide interesting visual effects on one face of the building, while the use of Formawall Dimension Series panels on the adjoining face gave the building team the design flexibility needed with the benefit of advanced thermal efficiency and moisture control. Additional CENTRIA IW Series panels give the hotel a clean, monolithic appearance. The use of CENTRIA’s metal panels also allowed for the building’s sleek and sharp corners.
Additionally, selecting metal for this project was an environmentally-responsible design decision as all of the CENTRIA products used have received Cradle-to-CradleSM Silver Certification.
The architect for this project was RTKL Associates, Inc. of Baltimore, MD; the CENTRIA products dealer/installer was Crown Corr, Inc. of Gary, IN; and the contractor was Hensel-Phelps Construction Co. of Greeley, CO. The project’s owner is Baltimore Hotel Corporation. The 883,000 sq. ft. hotel was completed in August 2008.
