Future Expandability One Reason For Metal Building's Use For Canadian Manufacturing Facility

The ease with which metal buildings can be expanded is one of the reasons why they’re so often employed for the construction of manufacturing and warehouse spaces. And it was a consideration in the selection of a pre-engineered metal building system from Robertson Building Systems for the sales/service and manufacturing facility of Keith’s Walking Floor International in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

The 134’ x 160’ x 30’ building system provides 21,440 sq. ft. of production space and supports a precast mezzanine. It is connected to the company’s conventionally built office structure. Work on the building began in August 2008 and was completed in March 2009.

The framing system supports a pair of parallel-mounted five-ton overhead cranes, each running from endwall to endwall. Topping the structure is a Robertson SSR standing seam metal roof system. The Galvalume-coated steel panels were installed on a ¼:12 pitch. Used for the walls and interior liner panels were 26-gauge DuraRib panels with a Snow White coil-applied paint finish.

The project was designed by J.H. Cohoon Engineering of Brantford. Lanca Contracting Limited, also of Brantford, was the authorized Robertson builder. KDM Erectors of Thorndale, Ontario, erected the structure.
