Kennedy Space Center Orbiter Building

CENTRIA Metal Panels Provide Sleek Look In Keeping With Space Shuttle Atlantis Exhibit

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is the new $100 million home of the priceless, historic Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit which tells the story of NASA’s 30-year space shuttle program. The Atlantis exhibit is the marquee element of the Visitor Complex’s 10-year master construction plan. Architectural metal products from CENTRIA played a key role in the design of the Titusville, FL complex.

From only a few feet away, guests have an up-close, 360-degree view of Atlantis – the wear and tear of its 33 missions apparent on its protective external tiles. Guests can view this national treasure from several different levels to fully experience its wonder. The orbiter is dramatically showcased as if it were in orbit in space, elevated 30 feet off the ground.

Space Shuttle Atlantis features state-of-the-art multimedia presentations and more than 60 interactive exhibits and high-tech simulators that bring to life the complex components and systems behind this incredible feat of engineering.

The architects for this project specified CENTRIA products because of their durability, sustainability, aesthetics and economic advantages.

CENTRIA’s Style-Rib Exposed Fastener Panels are cost-effective, single-skin metal panels that make it possible for designers to achieve a wide variety of innovative aesthetics. The panels have a wide width for quick close in time, and they work well for both new construction and retrofit projects. The panels may be insulated to add an additional level of thermal protection.

Exposed fastener panels provide flexibility—and virtually unlimited aesthetic possibilities—with panels that can be used as exterior or interior walls, roofs or soffits. The sleek and innovative aesthetics of CENTRIA’s panels were an integral part of the architect’s vision, contributing to the unique façade of the building.

The architect was BRPH of Melbourne, FL. The contractor was Whiting Turner of Tampa, FL. The CENTRIA products dealer/installer was A.C. Dellovade, Inc. of Canonsburg, PA. The 65,000 sq. ft. facility was completed in Fall 2013.

CENTRIA products featured on this project included:

• Profile Series Style-Rib Exposed Fastener Panels - Square Feet: 43,208; Color: Charcoal; Finish: Smooth; Coating: Fluorofinish®

• Profile Series Exposed Fastener Profiles Style-Rib - Square Feet: 15,669; Color: Dove Gray; Finish: Smooth; Coating: Fluorofinish
