Staying true to the commitment to be a responsible partner in future sustainability, Pitt-Ohio, a leader in the trucking industry, significantly invested in a new 95,765 sq. ft. facility that received Gold LEED status. The pre-engineered metal building, provided by Authorized Builder C. Tucker Cope and Associates Inc. of Columbiana, OH, was awarded the American Buildings 2022 Building of the Year Excellence in Design Award in the Transportation category, while also earning the prestigious title of 2022 Building of the Year.

The Pitt-Ohio facility in Parma, OH, features a terminal, mechanic shop, office, and warehouse. Dedication to environmental and social responsibility is evident in numerous decisions, such as choosing metal construction due to its sizable percentage of recycled content, a cool color metal roof system designed with the addition of solar panels to support an overall microgrid effort for the facility, energy efficient light wall panels allowing natural light, and the installation of eight wind turbines onsite to capture and store natural energies.

The highly anticipated Excellence in Design Awards competition is open to all American Buildings Authorized Builders. The awards recognize Builders for their innovation, diverse application, and distinction in design in the metal buildings industry. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges.

Judges chose from over 100 entries and selected the best projects in each of the following categories: Agriculture; Auto Dealership; Church/Religious Centers; Commercial; Government/Institutional; Manufacturing/Industrial; Office; Recreation; Retail; Special Projects; Transportation; and Warehouse/Distribution.

Winners were announced for each category and were eligible to compete for the Excellence in Design top award: 2022 Building of the Year.
