J & M Steel Solutions, a Nucor Building Systems Authorized Builder, earned the 2017 Building of the Year honor from the Metal Building Contractors & Erectors Association (MBCEA) for their work on the Provo Power project located in Sandy, Utah. The project is comprised of a 17,500 sq. ft. pre-engineered Nucor building used as a maintenance facility attached to a structural steel building serving as the administrative offices for Provo Power, which is the largest municipal power system in Utah.
The Provo Power maintenance building houses the company’s fleet of service vehicles and features R-30 rigid insulation and membrane roof with horizontal 2”-thick insulated metal wall panels. The state-of-the-art facility incorporates numerous energy-efficient and sustainable features earning LEED® Gold Certification. The building was designed by VCBO Architecture, Layton Construction was the general contractor, and erector for both buildings was J & M Steel Solutions.
J & M Steel Solutions is based out of Lehi, Utah and has been an Authorized Nucor Builder for over 12 years. Since the company’s inception in April 2004, J & M Steel Solutions has completed well over 500 pre-engineered metal buildings and structural steel projects and received numerous industry awards in recognition of safety and excellence.
The MBCEA Awards program recognizes outstanding building systems judged on the criteria of aesthetics, unique features, quality, complexity and green building elements in various project categories. The Building of the Year award is the most prestigious accolade and only presented to one recipient annually.
