Simcoe County Administrative Centre

RHEINZINK Panels Selected To Clad Administrative Centre Expansion

With its engaging design and energy efficient features, the Simcoe County Administrative Centre in Midhurst, Ontario is the pre-eminent public service building in Simcoe County. Its status was earned with the recent construction of a 70,000 sq. ft. addition clad in large part with titanium zinc from RHEINZINK America Inc.

The addition wraps around the existing building to create a corridor and series of interior courtyards between the existing and new structures. The new building transforms the existing dark and inward-looking structure into an engaging, light-filled environment for County employees and the public alike.

The two-story building has achieved LEED Gold certification and takes full advantage of the natural light and surrounding forest views.

Approximately 25,000 square feet of RHEINZINK pre-weathered graphite-grey Double Lock standing seam wall panels were installed in a vertical application. The 0.8mm panels were roll-formed on site. All appropriate details were vented with perforated RHEINZINK flashings.

Fabrication and installation of the RHEINZINK panels was done by Gage Metal Cladding Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario. Architectural design for the project was provided by Teeple Architects, Toronto.

The RHEINZINK-clad building was designed to maximize the reflection of heat, maintain continuous views and capture natural light. Glazing was carefully planned with overhangs for shading and smaller windows employed in areas subject to heat gain. The high-performance building envelope with R30 exterior foam insulation, a thermally-broken cladding system and double-glazed windows reduces overall energy demand while efficient mechanical systems harvest available energy for heating and cooling.

The RHEINZINK distributor on the project was MetalTech—USA, Peachtree City, GA.
