The South Seattle (Washington) Transfer and Recycling Center has been transformed into a more advanced transfer station, thanks to the hard work of PHI Construction Inc., an American Buildings Company authorized Builder.
PHI Construction was able to renovate South Seattle Transfer and Recycling Station with new environmentally-conscience characteristics while providing a larger space for safety and efficiency. The state-of-the-art, eco-friendly building received a LEED® Gold certification with features that include a rainwater collection system that stores water for washing and irrigation of landscaping.
Unlike the previous facility, residents will have their own entrance, enabling them to avoid incoming garbage trucks and making drop-off more efficient.
South Seattle Transfer now has a new misting system that will cut down on odor and dust, creating an entirely new experience. The center will also feature public art created with old street signs and recycled materials, accented by gentle, natural lighting.
Headquartered in Portland, Ore., PHI Construction was awarded Building of the Year for their work on the South Seattle Transfer and Recycling Station in the 2013 American Buildings Company (ABC) Excellence in Design Awards competition. ABC’s Excellence in Design Awards recognizes builders and roofers for their innovation and distinction in design.
