Maaten Construction Limited has been serving southern Ontario since 1953. The Sarnia, Ontario, Canada-based firm’s relationship with Robertson Building Systems doesn’t go back quite that far, but at the 2012 Robertson Partnership Forum in Palm Springs, CA, Ken Maaten, the president of Maaten Construction Limited, was honored for 40 years as a Robertson Builder by the president of Robertson, Frank Fuca.
Maaten’s portfolio of projects is extensive and impressive, and covers the spectrum. But not all of its projects are large in scale or unique in design. Some are simple and straightforward, yet built to the same standards of excellence that the company’s customers rely upon. Case in point is the SPS Trucking Repair Centre.
The SPS Trucking Repair Centre is a vehicle maintenance facility owned and operated by Sarnia Paving Stone. It is the quintessential metal building—clad with metal wall panels and topped with metal roofing. The project has a pair of drive-through bays on the west side and four truck bays on the east. A conventionally constructed office was added to the front and extends into the shop area, creating a storage area mezzanine over the offices.
The building measures 90’ wide x 101’-4” long x 24’ at the eave and has a ½:12 roof pitch. It has a 24-gauge aluminum-zinc standing seam metal roof and 24-gauge Dura-Rib walls in an Ash Gray color. Robertson Building Systems supplied the framing system and cladding products. Maaten Construction designed the building and also erected it.
