Swiss Re Regional Office Building

Citadel Systems Help Create Contemporary Image For Global Company's U.S. Office

Swiss Re, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, offers reinsurance products and related financial services around the world. It has offices located in more than 25 countries, including a new 80,000 sq. ft. regional office building in Fort Wayne, IN. Featured on the building's exterior are two types of metal wall panel systems from Citadel Architectural Products. Company officials describe the new building as one of the most energy efficient in Northeast Indiana. But sustainable construction is not the exception at Swiss Re, it is the rule.

“Swiss Re has a long tradition of building architecturally exciting and sustainable office buildings around the globe,” said Neal Arnold, Head of Life and Health North America for Swiss Re.

Two Citadel systems were utilized on the project. Approximately 12,000 sq. ft. of Envelope 2000® metal composite material (MCM) was installed using Citadel’s Reveal (RV) System, a field-assembled attachment method utilizing perimeter moldings. The panels were finished in Clear Anodized, Gun Metal and Silver Metallic. In addition, 12,000 sq. ft. of GlazeGuard® 1000 glazing infill panels were also installed.

The Design Collaborative of Fort Wayne designed the building, though Swiss Re was very involved in the initial design phase. “We had lots of conference calls with people around the world,” said Kelly Shields, project architect. “Swiss Re is a very eco-conscious company and they wanted a clean, modern look. We were able to accomplish that with a minimal palette of basically glass and the metal panels. The real advantage to the Citadel product is that you can get the metal panel look but Citadel is a lot more cost effective than many of the other options.”

The Citadel panels were installed by Delaware Glass, Muncie, IN. The general contractor on the project was Harold McComb & Son, Inc., Fort Wayne. The Citadel representative was Spohn Associates, Inc., Indianapolis.
