Google describes Brooklyn, New York's Greenpoint neighborhood as a residential area with hipster appeal. There, traditional Polish shops and restaurants coexist with trendy eateries, bars and live music venues. Galleries and artist studios are found in
its converted warehouses, while a revitalized East River waterfront has parks and new high-rises that offer sweeping views of midtown Manhattan. Among the new residential towers is The Dupont, a just-completed 41-story development whose top-of-the-line
amenities are rivaled only by its stunning views. Marking the building's prominent entrance is a canopy comprised of perforated textured metal from Buffalo, NY's Rigidized® Metals.
Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel Architects, the main architectural firm on the project developed jointly by The Rockefeller Group and Park Tower Group, chose a perforated version of Rigidized® Metals’ pattern ACC4i deep textured metal to give the
building's robust entrance canopy a more refined and delicate look. In doing so, the firm created an inviting outdoor space for residents to commune with neighbors. Randy Gerner of GKV likened the perforated metal treatment and its integrated lighting
design to a lightweight cloud.
Rigidized® Metals’ deep-textured metals are created using a unique manufacturing process that enhances the durability and beauty of ordinary flat metals. The process can be applied to a wide range of metals including aluminum, carbon steel,
copper, brass and titanium, though stainless steel is the primary metal offering and was utilized for The Dupont project.
Above All Store Fronts handled the installation of the project's 316 N4 20-gauge stainless panels, which were fabricated by Castle Architectural Metals.
