PPG Launches Duranar ADS Coatings For Architectural Metals

New Resin Formulation Sparks Revival Of Product For Touch-Ups And Field Repairs

Pittsburgh, PA - PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) coil and building products coatings group has launched Duranar® ADS (air-dried system) fluoropolymer coating, a newly-formulated product that surpasses the performance of the original Duranar ADS coating.

PPG-Duranar-logoThe next-generation Duranar ADS coating, designed for touching up fluoropolymer finishes on architectural metals damaged during production or after field installation, is based on Arkema’s Kynar® ADS2™ fluorinated copolymer resin and PPG proprietary chemistry. It is available in a wide range of solid, metallic and pearlescent colors and in PPG’s infrared-reflective (IR-reflective) pigment technology.

James J. Feorino, global market manager in the fluoropolymers business unit of Arkema Inc., said, "In developing second-generation Kynar ADS2 resin, Arkema was careful to preserve performance characteristics in line with our Kynar 500® resin, including its superior weatherability and resistance to most atmospheric and environmental conditions. We are proud and excited that PPG, which is one of our longest continuous licensees of Kynar 500 resin, has decided to incorporate this technology into its next-generation Duranar ADS coating."

Brian Knapp, PPG manager, coil and building products coatings, said PPG is committed to helping metal building product manufacturers fill a need that is currently unaddressed in the marketplace.

“The new coating technology, developed in partnership by PPG and Arkema, represents a significant advance in our industry because it dramatically expands customers’ ability to solve a problem they commonly face in the field,” he explained. “Ultimately, Duranar ADS coating enables our customers to improve the quality of their products, enhance customer service and more effectively showcase their craftsmanship.”

Because of its single-component formulation, Duranar ADS coating has the flexibility to be applied by fingernail brush for small touch-ups at the end of a production line, or to be spray-applied. It is ideal for use on window frames, door frames, roofs and metal wall panels marred during fabrication or installation.
