PNC Field Renovation

PNC Field, home to the AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees baseball team, underwent a $40 million upgrade that resulted in a completely renovated facility that was ready for the 2013 season. The new look PNC Field features the modern amenities and the intimate setting that today’s fans are looking for, along with metal products by CENTRIA that add to the festive surroundings.

Located in Moosic, PA and originally designed as a multi-purpose stadium with a steep upper deck, the architects at EwingCole completely reinvented the ballpark as an entertainment destination. The new facility was created using the lower seating bowl, playing field and the home clubhouse as the foundation. The amazing end result is 10,500 seats with an open-air outfield concourse that offers fans easy access to entertainment options and refreshments during the game - all while keeping them connected to the action on the field. The general admission patrons also have additional options, including tiered picnic areas and lawn seating.

CENTRIA’s MetalWrap™ Series was used to meet the project’s performance and sustainability goals, while also providing long-term value. Traditionally, installing effective backup panels requires multiple layers (i.e. batt or board insulation, exterior sheathing, air barriers, vapor retarders or building wrap). Covering nearly 35,000 square feet of the park, MetalWrap Series uses CENTRIA’s patented advanced thermal and moisture protection technology (ATMP®) in a single insulated composite backup panel. MetalWrap Series can be used with metal, brick and terra cotta and this flexibility makes it simple for architects to achieve project goals with a single specification for both single-exterior and mixed-exterior buildings - and perfect for a renovation like PNC Field.

Concept Series single-skin panels, which feature concealed fasteners and a common lock joint to create an unbroken appearance, were used to create the park’s sleek, modern exterior. In addition to aesthetics, Concept Series also delivers performance with stand-off clips that provide a ventilation cavity and drain plane behind the panel. PNC Field also utilizes EcoScreen Perforated Screenwall, providing an additional aesthetic element that helps control light and provide ventilation.

The architect was EwingCole of Philadelphia, PA; the CENTRIA products dealer/installer was The Warko Group of Allentown, PA; and the general contractor was Alvin H. Butz – Dirk A. Friend of Allentown, PA.
