The Jacksonville International Airport planned a major terminal expansion project to provide for the needs of its airlines, staff and passengers. The execution of this long-term project is divided into multiple phases. Stage 3, the concourse replacement phase, focused on reconstructing the 40-year old Concourses A and C to increase functionality and design. In this portion of the project, North Concourse A, architectural metal products from CENTRIA are prominently featured.

The concourses were constructed to house vaulted roof sheltering holdrooms, restrooms, concessionaires, building utility spaces, airport maintenance, airline operations, and ground service and mechanical equipment.

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series and Formawall Graphix Series were selected because of their superior performance, aesthetic and sustainability benefits. Because they provide unlimited design possibilities in terms of form, color and texture, these CENTRIA products were paramount in providing flexibility and variety to the Jacksonville International Airport’s design team. The exterior facade was constructed to complement the existing facility while also providing an updated look to the structure. The CENTRIA products also provide inherent sustainable qualities as both have received Cradle-to-Cradle Silver CertificationCM.

Specifically, Formawall Dimension Series panels were selected because they provide excellent strength and durability combined with advanced thermal efficiency and moisture control in a single panelized component. Formawall Graphix Series was chosen because of the speed and ease of its installation, which reduced time and costs of construction. Although the product comes in a single panel, it can create the appearance of multiple smaller panels.

Additionally, the premium, high build architectural coating, Duragard Plus, provides the Jacksonville International Airport with the ultimate in color retention and fade resistance, increasing the longevity and durability of the products.

The architect for this project was Reynolds, Smith and Hills, Inc. of Jacksonville, FL; the CENTRIA products dealer/installer was Crown Corr, Inc. of Gary, IN; and the contractor was Balfour Beatty Construction of Dallas, TX.
