Varco Pruden Buildings' Rigid Frame system was used by J.E. Stewart Builders Inc. of Aiken, SC to create the Augusta Data Storage facility in Augusta, GA. Designed by Studio 3 Design Group PC of Augusta, the 26,260 sq. ft. building houses offices and document storage that complies with National Archives And Records Administration (NARA) regulations.
The Augusta Data Storage facility was selected as a winner in the Office category in the 2018 Varco Pruden Hall Of Fame presentation.
Erection of the project was challenging due to the height and clear span of the structure. The warehouse is 32' high at the eave and the Rigid Frame measures 147'. The site had limited access that would not accommodate the use of a large crane during construction, so two small carry-deck cranes were driven onto the building slab and used to swing each main frame into position.
Galvalume SSR metal roofing was supplied by Varco Pruden Buildings, along with the Panel Rib profile that was used on the walls. Nichiha fiber cement wall cladding was also used.
Augusta Data Storage consists of 4,824 sq. ft. of administrative offices and 21,436 sq. ft. of NARA-compliant document storage. This is one of 26 NARA-compliant facilities in the U.S. that is privately owned. Security features include an early suppression, fast response (ESFR) sprinkler system, FA security, closed-circuit TV surveillance, access controls and climate control. Racking is designed to handle 180,000 cubic ft. of sensitive document storage.
The project was completed in December 2017.
