Completed for an international pharmaceutical company, the expansion of this North Carolina research building has created the world’s largest plasma fractionation facility. Grifols, a pioneer in the production of plasma-derived pharmaceuticals, commissioned this new state-of-the-art addition in order to double their annual production capacity. The 184,000-square-foot facility in Clayton, NC is home to more than 200 researchers and employees, and features an array of new technologically advanced lab equipment including high-powered centrifuges and utility systems.
CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal wall systems and Profile Series Exposed Fastener Panels were chosen for their superior benefits in terms of aesthetics, performance and sustainability. Additionally, the project was on a very tight schedule. CENTRIA’s products, known for their efficient installation times, were ideal to help keep the project on time.
The Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal panels used on the project provide thermal efficiency and moisture control in a single panelized component. Dimension Series insulated metal panels include a factory foamed-in-place core, minimizing insulation gaps, along with a thermal break between the face and the liner. The panels offer superior weather resistance by utilizing pressure equalization along the length of the horizontal joinery. With a balance of both efficiency and aesthetics, these insulated panels offer an innovative and contemporary choice for any building exterior. With CENTRIA’s advanced thermal and moisture protection (ATMP®) technology, the Formawall Dimension series product line ensures thermal efficiency as well as moisture control in a single panel.
CENTRIA’s Profile Series BR5-36 exposed fastener panels were chosen because they offer a unique profile that creates a contemporary aesthetic on the exterior of the facility. With the option to install the Profile Series panels both vertically and horizontally, these versatile panels provided the design team with unlimited options in terms of form, color and texture. In addition, the panels can be insulated to meet varying levels of thermal protection and provide excellent negative wind load properties. The subtle Medium Gray color provided an excellent complement to the Champagne Gold color of the other CENTRIA panels and lent both consistency and depth to the exterior aesthetic.
The architects were CRB of Cary, NC and Criser Troutman Tanner Consulting Engineers of Wilmington, NC. The CENTRIA products dealer/installer was SPS Corporation of Apex, NC. The contractor was Barnhill Contracting of Raleigh, NC.
