Metl-Span insulated metal wall panels provided “the basis of design” for a major auditorium addition to Centerville High School, Centerville, OH, according to the project architect. The new 1,200-seat auditorium project utilized approximately 12,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span’s CF-30 Architectural wall panels finished in Desert Beige.

Design for the project was provided by Levin Porter Associates, Dayton, OH. Project architect Patrick Hillier said his firm "has a strong history of using metal panels as a design element,” yet this was the first time Metl-Span panels had been chosen. Hillier said the firm was impressed. “The panel had a good price point and worked well with the design concept. For cost effectiveness, we wanted to stay within available modules. Getting that information from Metl-Span during the design stage was very helpful so that we could make the best decisions. It was the basis of our design.”

The designers selected Metl-Span’s 30” module width with 3” thickness. The CF Architectural wall panels are also available in 24” and 36” module widths. Other standard thicknesses include 2”, 2 ½” and 4”.

The lower levels of the new auditorium utilized brick to blend with existing portions of the building. “But we decided to use Metl-Span panels on the upper parts of the auditorium that reached 20’ to 30’ higher. We thought brick would be too heavy looking and would be too difficult to support.”

The Metl-Span panels sheath a state-of-the-art acoustic brick utilized on the interior of the auditorium. Installation of the Metl-Span panels was handled by ProCLAD, Inc. of Indianapolis, IN. The general contractor on the project was Peterson Construction Company, Wapakoneta, OH.
