Situated in Elkhart, Indiana, a new office and warehouse operation for ABF was created with the use of metal building systems from Varco Pruden Buildings.
The 227,358 sq. ft. structure utilizes Continuous Beam and WideBay framing systems. Varco Pruden also supplied its SSR roofing formed from Galvalume-coated steel, along with Vee Rib walls panels in Cool Zinc Gray color.
ABF Freight was selected as the Best of Warehouse Winner in the 2019 Varco Pruden Hall Of Fame presentation.
The Varco Pruden Builder for the project was DJ Construction Company Inc. of Goshen Indiana. The designer was Helman Sechrist Architecture of Elkhart, Indiana.
During construction, there was a need to add more dock doors to the facility, which involved coordination between the building owner, the builder and Varco Pruden Buildings. With the engineering help, the builder was able to pour new foundation walls,
install additional door frames, beef up columns and make adjustments to the bracing to bring everything together.
A total of 24 dock doors, with canopies over them, can be found on the new facility. The office portion of the structure has a modern appearance that was created by blending stone with horizontal metal panels. Meanwhile, large upper windows bring natural
light into the warehouse. The project was completed in September 2018.
