Set to open in 2016, the new development at the Boeing Delivery Center in Charleston, SC will be a state-of-the-art aircraft paint facility. The 256,000 square-foot facility - featuring metal products from CENTRIA - is 10 stories high and almost two football fields wide, big enough to house two Boeing 787 Dreamliners simultaneously.

Prior to the construction of the new delivery center, Boeing had to send its planes out of state in order to be painted before they were returned to South Carolina to finish production. The new facility eliminates that practice, streamlining the production process and speeding up delivery time.

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series and Ecoscreen Perforated Screenwall were chosen for their superior benefits in terms of aesthetics, performance and sustainability. Due the heavy industrial use of the facility, multiple CENTRIA products were used to provide thermal efficiency and wind and flame resistance.

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series is one of today’s most preferred metal wall systems because of its combination of performance, aesthetics and sustainability. Compared to traditional multi-component wall construction, Formawall Dimension Series is manufactured as one component. It provides both advanced thermal efficiency and moisture control in a single panelized component. Formawall insulated metal panels include a factory foamed-in-place core, minimizing insulation gaps, along with a thermal break between the face and the liner. The panels offer superior weather resistance by utilizing pressure equalization along the length of the horizontal joinery. The single component construction results in less jobsite waste, making it an eco-friendly option, all while helping to keep the project on budget and on time.

CENTRIA’s Ecoscreen Perforated Screenwall lended the sleek façade an airy aesthetic. Often used to blend industrial and other applications with their surroundings, Ecoscreen can also be used for custom applications to create unique design elements. These versatile panels can be installed vertically or horizontally and are available in a variety of color and coating combinations.

Profile Series Liner Panels create a complete field assembled wall system by combining a liner panel, subgirts, varying thicknesses of non-combustible fiberglass insulation and any of CENTRIA’s exposed fastener or concealed fastener panels.

Lastly, CENTRIA and Kalwall have formed a unique partnership to share the design and manufacturing that have made each company a leader in the commercial building products market. Kalwall, with more 50 years of leadership in translucent daylighting systems, and CENTRIA have co-designed the Formawall Dimension Series Integrated Translucent Window System. Manufactured by Kalwall, these Translucent Window Systems are designed to install easily with Formawall Dimension Series panels. Common joinery elements provide a seamless exterior package and are tested to meet specific wind, rain, air movement and aesthetic requirements. Kalwall translucent windows were used to provide ample and even natural lighting to the paint bays and administration offices.

The architect for this project was Calloway Johnson Moore & West, PA of Lexington, SC. Contractors included Turner Construction Companies of Charlotte, NC and KBR Building Group of Greenville, SC. The CENTRIA products dealer/installer was SPS Corporation of Raleigh, NC.
