The Contraband Bayou Transit Shed & Automated Equipment facility in Lake Charles, LA, is an impressive 220,000 sq. ft. project that used hybrid framing from VP Buildings.
The project called for 1,500 tons of pre-engineered and structural steel framing. The building has a clear span of 124’ with a minimum height of 27’. There is also a 28’-wide gallery with a finished floor height of 42’ that runs the entire length of the building, which is 926’. The building was designed to support over 6,000 linear ft. of conveyors transporting a continuous stream of bagged goods weighing over 120 lbs.
The facility is clad with VP’s SSR Galvalume standing seam roofing, Panel Rib metal walls, and cast-in-place concrete.
Alfred Palma Inc. of Lake Charles was the metal building contractor. The designer was Meyer & Associates Inc., Sulphur, LA. The project is owned by Port Of Lake Charles.
