Ordell Construction, a general contractor and Varco Pruden Builder™, led the design and expansion of a six-year-old brew house in Oregon. Owned by Ninkasi Brewing Company, a microbrewery based in Eugene, the expanded facility was slated to triple the company's output capacity.

Located at 220 Blair Boulevard in the heart of Eugene’s Whiteaker District, the 26,000-square-foot addition to the brewery incorporates several Varco Pruden products, including a Rigid Frame system, a Panel Rib™ wall system, and an SSR™ standing seam roof system.

A new 8,000-square-foot distribution building and two acres of associated site work was provided by Ordell, along with the installation of a beer bridge, a structural steel truss spanning the roadway used to pipe beer from one facility to another across the street.

The project includes a new 60‐barrel brew house (Ninkasi’s third brewing system, which is double the size of the one installed in late 2008), additional, larger fermenters, a new bottling line that can fill 12‐ounce bottles, and more storage and office space for a theoretical annual capacity of 90,000 barrels or 2.8 million gallons.

The brewery’s design and construction teams were able to add numerous sustainable features to the brewery, setting it on the path to reach LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Ninkasi is the fourth-largest craft brewer in Oregon and the 30th-largest in the U.S., producing more than 86,000 barrels of beer in 2013. The company's goal for 2015 is to produce 115,000 barrels, officials said. With its 2014 announcement of plans to distribute beer in Nevada, Ninkasi serves restaurants, bars, grocery stores in seven western states and Vancouver, British Columbia.
