Promega Corporation has developed a reputation as a leader in providing innovative solutions and technical support to the life sciences industry. Promega’s products enable scientists across the world to create innovations in genomics, protein analysis and expression, cellular analysis, genetic identity and more. The worldwide corporation bolstered that reputation with the addition of its newest manufacturing building located in close proximity to its Madison, Wisc. headquarters, featuring exterior cladding from CENTRIA. The new processing facility will build on those advancements by creating efficiency improvements for processing, packaging and shipping products that can save lives.

Building owners and architects wanted the design to align with Promega’s 30-year commitment to corporate responsibility, using technology to minimize energy use and emissions. The company’s efforts included the use of LED lighting, solar panels and computerized monitoring, in addition to its new high-performance building.

Many of Promega’s portfolio of 3,000 products are temperature-sensitive and require specialized temperature-controlled facilities and equipment to hold inventory for daily processing. Maintaining proper room temperature is of the utmost importance for the facility tasked with packaging and shipping the enzymes, proteins and biological products that assist in diagnosing and treating some of today’s most harmful diseases.

Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal panels proved the right product for the job. The insulated metal panel system provides thermal efficiency and moisture control in a single panelized component with a factory foamed-in-place core. Formawall Dimension Series panels also provide superior weather resistance by utilizing pressure equalization along the length of the horizontal joinery.

Formawall panels help to create an efficient workplace environment for the laboratory procedures inside, along with an aesthetically pleasing exterior. The combination of silversmith and blue panels offer a clean, uninterrupted appearance, minimizing dirt streaking and staining that ultimately leads to reduced building costs.

The back and sides of the building are highlighted by a variety of textures thanks to Profile Series Super-Rib Exposed Fastener panels and Econolap Exposed Fastener Panels. With ribs running horizontally, the single-skin panels are as versatile as they are beautiful, offering the flexibility to be used as exterior and interior walls.

The architect was Uihlein Wilson Architects of Milwaukee, WI. The CENTRIA products dealer was G&L Associates Inc. of Milwaukee, WI. The CENTRIA products installer was Nations Roof LLC of Waukesha, WI. The contractor was Kraemer Brothers LLC of Plain, WI. The 126,332 sq. ft. facility was completed in October 2015.
