Originally conceived as a senior center, the West Sacramento Community Center evolved into a more comprehensive facility after the results of a city-wide needs assessment were analyzed. It was determined that a facility geared towards a multi-generational audience, with an emphasis on cultural activities, was the missing link in the city’s master redevelopment plan. The building’s bold color palette of blues and oranges and the distinctive form of the elevated black box theater have made the center a local landmark, enhancing the area’s distinctly urban character. CENTRIA supplied metal cladding in three shades of blue for the complex.

Located in West Sacramento, CA, the West Sacramento Community Center is host to a multitude of community events, classes, and productions. The facility is also available to rent for special events. The building features a black box theater, a state-of-the-art, flexible space that includes full theatrical lighting, a sound system and an 11-station dressing room. The Historical Gallery features high quality displays and artifacts which describe the community's rich and diverse history. The use of video screens and an interactive video station allow visitors to navigate their way through West Sacramento's past.

Since its opening in 2011, the facility is LEED Gold certified and has won several awards including an Award of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society, 2010 Project of the Year from Sacramento Chapter of the American Public Works Association and an Excellence in Design Award from Environmental Design + Construction magazine.

CENTRIA’s Profile Series Exposed Fastener Style-Rib vertical panels were chosen because they provided the design team with unlimited options in terms of form, color and texture. The extremely versatile panels can be used on exterior and interior walls, as well as on roofs and soffits. In addition, they can be insulated to meet many levels of thermal protection and provide excellent negative wind load properties.

Since bold colors were needed to bring the building’s design to life, CENTRIA’s wide array of colors, textures and finishes gave architects an extensive range of options that led to them selecting the perfect shades of blue. Finally, from a sustainability perspective CENTRIA products helped contribute to the building’s LEED certification since the panels are manufactured from 25.5 percent post-consumer waste and 6.8 percent pre-consumer waste.

The architect: Group 4 Architecture of San Francisco, CA; the CENTRIA products dealer was Blackwood Associates Inc. of Fairfield, CA; the CENTRIA products installer was Richard Joseph & Company of Sparkus, NV; and the contractor was C&C Construction of Rocklin, CA.
