For a city the size of Plainfield, Indiana (population 27,000), the Plainfield Public Safety Facilities project was an ambitious undertaking. Announced in 2016, the $25 million project called for the construction of a new headquarters and two new stations
for the Plainfield Fire Territory, and the renovation or re-purposing of four other buildings used by the city's public safety forces. As designed by CR Architecture + Design of Cincinnati, the new fire territory buildings feature metal composite
wall panels from Laminators Inc. of Hatfield, PA on their exterior.
Heading up the construction end of the project was general contractor Bowen Engineering of Indianapolis, IN and RAM North America of Arcadia, IN. RAM North America installed a total of 7,000 sq. ft. of Omega-Lite ACM panels on the new fire headquarters
and Station 122, which is a separate structure sharing the same 5-acre site. The panels chosen for the two buildings feature a classic Bright Silver factory paint finish. They were installed using Laminators' proprietary 1-Piece, Tight-Fit installation
system.
CR Architecture + Design chose the 1-Piece, Tight-Fit system because it made panel installation easy using Laminators’ durable 1-piece moldings. Both "H" and "Reveal H" moldings are available, providing two different design options for the panel
joints. A traditional, yet high-tech appearance was obtained at an affordable cost for all involved.
Omega-Lite panels offer a highly decorative, strong and durable surface finish for exterior wall surfaces. Composed of a polypropylene, corrugated core between two finished aluminum sheets, these panels are non-absorbent, water-resistant and easy
to maintain.
Omega-Lite installed with the 1-Piece, Tight-Fit system guaranteed Plainfield Fire Territory Fire Headquarters and Fire Station 122 a class A fire rating. That system meets NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 285, Miami-Dade County Product
