Completed in January 2008, the 15,500-square foot (1,440 square meters) Bingham Cyclery facility in Ogden, Utah, features a metal building, roof and walls from American Buildings Co., Eufaula, Ala.

The walls feature American Buildings’ Architectural III panels highlighted with Bristol, Conn.-based Morin’s X-12 W and BR7-35 horizontal panels in Evergreen color. The roof is covered by American Buildings’ Standing Seam II and Loc-Seam metal roof panels in Alcot. The coatings utilize 70 percent PVDF resin supplied as Kynar 500 or Hylar 500, manufactured by PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, PA.

The building was constructed using a combination of single-slope building frames and single-slope lean-tos. Reverse-tapered rigid frame columns were used in the creation of the outward sloping glass wall in the atrium. A 4,000-square foot (372 square meters) storage and office area mezzanine sits above the retail area, also supported by the American Buildings structure. Additionally, the building includes a 2,700-square foot (251 square meters) express service restaurant that remains fully open to the bicycle sales area and offers riverside patio dining. The remaining 7,000 square feet (650 square meters) of the building is tenant lease space primarily marketed to similar outdoor-based retail businesses.

Due to the innovative and appealing appearance of the building, Specialized Bicycles, a world renowned Morgan Hill, Calif.-based competition bicycle manufacturer, nationally promotes and markets the building as a concept store.

Arc/Artel Architecture, Salt Lake City, was the architect, and A. D. Construction, West Jordan, Utah, was the general contractor.
