Pre-engineered metal building systems from Butler Manufacturing, featuring KoreTeck™ panelized wall systems, were utilized by Alan Anderson Architect, AIA, of Sarasota, FL, for the pair of buildings that make up the newly completed Cobia Bay Retail Center in Sarasota. The project’s general contractor was Formella Construction LLC, a Sarasota-based authorized Butler builder.
The Cobia Bay development was completed in February 2009 and consists of two buildings. The larger is 28,314 sq. ft. while the smaller is approximately 4,000 sq. ft. Both use single-slope column and beam style Butler rigid framing systems. And likewise, both are wrapped with Butler’s KoreTeck™ panelized wall systems and topped with Butler MR-24 standing seam metal roofs.
KoreTeck™ panels are a complete envelope system that offers ease of installation, exterior finish flexibility and superior performance benefits. At the heart of the system are monolithic, non-cavity walls that replace metal studs, insulation and exterior sheathing. These panelized components consist of a solid galvanized 20-gauge steel core surrounded by Perform Guard® expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation. The system’s all-in-one composition significantly reduces the time and labor required to construct the building’s exterior envelope. On the Cobia Bay project a synthetic stucco finish was applied to the exterior face of the panels, which was then painted.
While the 24-gauge, acrylic-clear-coated steel Butler roofing panels cannot be seen from ground level, metal roofing does play a significant role in the appearance of the two buildings through its use as canopies over the storefront glazing systems. The 26-gauge steel canopy panels were by McElroy Metal and were provided in four different Kynar colors: green, black, Colonial Red and blue.
