The elegant lines of the new Park Place Lexus dealership building in Plano, Texas, embody the high-performance, luxury styling of the vehicles showcased inside, thanks in part to the Reynobond® aluminum composite materials (ACM) and products by Kawneer—sister company to Alcoa Architectural Products—that form the building envelope. The new state-of-the-art, $10-million-plus, 170,000-square-foot dealership––nearly twice the size of its predecessor––houses new and pre-owned car showrooms and service facilities designed to impress clients while also meeting the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC®) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification requirements.

Good Fulton & Farrell Architects of Dallas, Texas, was engaged to help envision the new dealership, to help consolidate their current program and to provide a framework for future growth. The complex geometric architecture they created for the dealership is characterized by a curvilinear façade of metal and glass curtain wall that flows around the building in both concave and convex curves, as well as by traditional rectilinear forms. The façade changes from one form to another to accentuate the locations of the new and pre-owned car showrooms and service center.

PRO LINE Panel Systems, LLC, of Kaufman, TX, installed 12,000 square feet of 4 mm Reynobond ACM with a PE core—finished in the Champagne Metallic Colorweld® 500XL paint coating specified by the Lexus CID program—on the entrance canopy, fascia and soffits at different locations on the building in a rear-ventilated, rout-and-return rainscreen attachment system. The rounded canopy that designates the entrance to the pre-owned car showroom area is a true, stair-stepped radius in a very complex panel system. Straight panels were installed on the concave curves as a segmented radius. All the panels were fabricated in-house with CNC Roundtable using 3-D software.

To ensure that the Reynobond architectural panels would integrate perfectly with the curtain wall, Kawneer products were specified and finished in the same Champagne Metallic Colorweld 500XL finish. Tall, floor-to-ceiling low-iron glass was specified for an ultra-clear look and to deliver maximum sunlight into the dealership. Oak Cliff Mirror & Glass Co., Inc., of Dallas, TX, relied on Kawneer’s 1600 Wall System™2, a Structural Silicone Glazed curtain wall, with custom butt glaze horizontals in three depths—6" (152.4 mm), 7.5" (190.5 mm) and 10" (254 mm)—to deliver the desired visual impact, thermal performance and light, and to handle the wind load. The stick-fabricated, SSG curtain wall, which is ideal for low- to mid-rise applications, is Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Silver for its material content, recyclability and manufacturing characteristics. Concealed fastener joinery creates a smooth, monolithic appearance and fillers produce uninterrupted seam lines by snapping onto optional open-back mullions.

At the entrances, Kawneer’s 350 Medium Stile Auto Show Room Bifold Doors with a doorframe face width of 7/8", a 1" glass infill measurement and a 3-1/2" (87.9 mm) sightline were used. Kawneer’s InFrame™ interior framing system—a sturdy and adaptable system designed to allow more light to penetrate the interior of a space—was selected to define the interior spaces. Twenty-five thousand square feet of glass were installed throughout the project.

Hill & Wilkinson General Contractors of Richardson, TX, served as general contractor for the project.

Park Place Lexus houses multiple car showrooms, a customer lounge, service and make-ready bays and Dallas-Fort Worth’s largest luxury car service drive-in. Sustainable features include credits for water efficiency, water use reduction and enhanced refrigerant management credits. Furnishings, fixtures and finishes include recycled and regional materials.

Beautifully and seamlessly rendered in Reynobond ACM and Kawneer products, the new, super-size Park Place Lexus dealership has the bold yet elegant presence appropriate for the largest dealership of its kind in Texas.
