Designed by Graham Gund Associates of Boston, the $80 million Center for Fitness, Recreation and Athletics at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, is ideally suited to the Midwest weather. While its construction provides for working out in climate controlled comfort inside—even when it’s freezing cold or sweltering hot outside—the presence of a 25’wide x 14’ tall, glass-paned bifold door in one wall enhances the building’s comfort and functionality when the temperatures outside are at more pleasant levels.

The door was custom designed for the project by Schweiss Doors, Fairfax, MN, and installed by ASI Limited of Indianapolis, IN. Assisting with the installation of the door, which is skinned with 6,500 pounds of double-paned glass panels, was a Schweiss factory technician.

Despite his company’s unfamiliarity with the Schweiss product line beforehand, Steve Smith of ASI had nothing but praise for the new door and its maker. "Though this was our first acquaintance with Schweiss, we were solidly impressed by the quality of their product," he notes. "I wouldn't have any problem recommending a Schweiss bifold. The materials, the construction accuracy, even the on-site training they provided to our construction workers was right on the money."
