Approximately 2,800 linear feet of 20 gauge Flex-Ability Concepts’ Flex-C Trac in 2 ½”, 3 5/8” and 6” widths were utilized to frame the intricate radiuses. A limited amount of 4” 18 gauge Flex-C Trac was also used.
The framing contractor on the complex project was Hammer Construction, Duncanville, TX. “To say the job was daunting was putting it mildly,” said Dennis Cooper, owner of Hammer Construction. “There were 120 pages of blueprints that included barrels, half-barrels, clouds—just about every type of radius you could think of. The crew had never seen anything like this before. But it’s doable with a product like Flex-C Trac. The crew picked it up quickly.”
Cooper had used Flex-C Trac before but on much smaller jobs. “This was our first experience with hanging a ‘pie in the sky.’ All of the hanging elements were daunting. Anybody can draw a radius and shoot the track down on the floor. But to build both the top and bottom and the entire element on the floor and then get it up is challenging. On some of the elements, we drew the diameter on the floor and then lasered up to the deck where we were fastening the Flex-C Trac to the iron up above.”
Cooper also likes Flex-C Trac’s new Hammer-Lock feature that allows the shaped flexible track to be held in place by simply hammering down tabs in each link of the track. “Hammer-Lock was a life saver,” according to Cooper.
The general contractor on the project was Mishler Builders, Inc., Rockwall, TX. The Flex-C Trac distributor was Longhorn Supply, Dallas.
