The Delaware Welcome Center on Interstate 95 outside of Newark, Del. is a 42,000-square-foot, multi-purpose facility. The welcome center, which features architectural metal products from CENTRIA, includes eight restaurants and eateries, four shops, as well as restroom amenities and pet exercise areas.

The Delaware Travel Plaza, which accommodates approximately 5 million patrons per year, was called “sparkling” in a 2010 National Public Radio story. According to NPR reporter Liane Hansen, “the place looks like an art museum, even an airport, with a sign that says ‘Welcome to Delaware.’”

CENTRIA’s FormaBond wall system revolutionizes the metal composite material (MCM) wall panel industry. CENTRIA uses a proprietary reaction injection molding process. The panels are strong and flat with excellent bond strength and superior impact resistance. FormaBond keeps wall cavities dry effectively and keeps rainwater out, reducing the chance of entrapped moisture.

CENTRIA’s SRS 3 Structural Standing Seam roof system is designed to provide clean and unbroken lines with minimal exposed fasteners, continuous transitions and long panel lengths, while allowing for unimpeded thermal movement without damage.

The sleek and innovative aesthetics of CENTRIA’s metal wall systems were an integral part of the architect’s vision, contributing to the beautiful façade of the building.

The architect was Cubellis of Englewood Cliffs, NJ. The CENTRIA products dealer/installer was Union Wholesale Co. of Wilmington, DE. The contractor was Edis Construction of Wilmington, DE. The welcome center was completed in June 2010.

CENTRIA products used on this project included:
