Allegheny Health Network Sports Complex At Cool Springs

Imagination Takes Flight To Create Pittsburgh Sports Facility, Aided By Metal Systems From Ceco

The Cool Springs Golf Center in Pittsburgh, PA had been struggling for years and then it was devastated by a fire. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Penn Cove Group Capital stepped in after the fire to rebuild the driving range and golf cages initially and did a massive renovation and upgrade. They were about to call it a day, when their imagination took flight - resulting in the Allegheny Health Network Sports Complex At Cool Springs, featuring products from Ceco Building Systems.

A prior relationship with Martik Brothers Inc. of Finleyville, PA accelerated the construction process. Martik’s adaptability in the field and willingness to think outside the box and make changes on the fly brought to this project the necessary components to pull it off. The scope of vision grew rapidly to include multiple indoor soccer fields and basketball courts with medical/rehabilitation offices on the second floor, and even banquet facilities and a café.

The project was a design/build that continued to evolve throughout the process. So Martik was able to adapt and change along with it. The architect, James O'Toole of Bethel Park, PA, was very open to feedback from the construction side. The open design dialog was able to surmount any obstacles and keep the forward momentum going. Communication, timing and everyone being on the same page made it possible to achieve something above and beyond the scope of anyone’s imagination.

Ceco District Sales Manager Jack Terrick was instrumental in driving the project timeline and design strategy with pertinent input on the loads, product choices, materials, logistics for the steel building span and capabilities.

Cool Springs Sports Complex is a well-designed facility that serves amateur sports teams, health and rehabilitation under one roof. The pre-engineered design made a 215′ clear span possible to accommodate the regulation size soccer field at a reasonable cost. It features Ceco Double-Lok standing seam roof, AVP and CecoRoc wall panels.

Measuring 169,000 square feet, the facility was completed in November 2015.
