Cecil County Administration Building

Metal Building And Roof System Combine With Conventional Framing For Maryland Complex

The 88,500 sq. ft. second floor of the Cecil County Administration Building utilized Star Building Systems’ StarASR Roof System in Evergreen color. Completed in November 2007, this county administration building in Elkton, MD, used a combination of a pre-engineered metal building and conventional construction.

The structure has a conventional first floor. Sitting atop the first floor is a pre-engineered Star Building. This complex structure was extremely difficult in designing due to the overall size, including a large 2-story lobby, hybrid structure and the framing system.

The combination of clear spans, a hip roof and the fact that it is self erectable made choosing a Star pre-engineered metal building a more efficient and economical solution over conventional construction.

In conjunction with the metal building, EIFS and brick were also used on the exterior walls.

Star’s Authorized Builder is Nowland Associates in Newark, DE. The Architect was ABHA Architects located in Wilmington, DE.
