Green Bay general contractor Best Built, Inc., an authorized Ceco Building Systems Builder, was recognized with a “2008 Projects of Distinction Silver, Metal Building, Up to $1 million Category” award by the Wisconsin Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Best Built received its award for its work on a new facility for Leo Van De Yacht Well Drilling.
Best Built, located in Green Bay, has been a family owned business for over 60 years and offers services from site consulting to general contracting to industrial services.
The building, located in Green Bay, was built on a new site to replace a previous location and was designed with a commercial look on the exterior and a residential look inside. A fireplace and tray ceiling used in the entranceway were designed to give the owner needed space as well as an at-home feeling. The shop area created the space needed to house three well rigs along with company trucks. The pump shop houses the equipment needed to assemble and make ready pumps for installation.
“The existing building was scheduled to be razed,” said Craig Kassner, Best Built president, “so we had to act quickly and redesign a new building to fit the new site.”
Construction began during a long, cold and snowy winter but was finished in four months. A major obstacle was the size of the site and the difficulty of getting the storm water design completed.
“The owners had future plans for an outbuilding where the original detention pond was located,” said Tom Van De Hei, Best Built project manager. “So we worked with the project team and site engineer to design a ditching system to run along both sides of the lot. This allowed space for future buildings.”
The new building is a Ceco Building Systems custom-designed steel frame with exterior CMU and exterior metal wall panels and consists of 14,575 square feet of office, pump shop, wash bay, maintenance area and storage.
Project architect was Kocken & Associates; project manager was Jim Boyea; and the owner is VDY Properties LLC.
