Clarian Saxony Medical Center

Two Profiles Of Metl-Span Panels Selected For New Acute Care Hospital

In 1963, the population of Fishers, IN was around 350 people. Today, the city is home to more than 75,000. Despite such growth, Fisher had never had its own hospital until late in 2011 when the $190 million Clarian Saxony Medical Center opened its doors to patients. The acute care facility boasts 44 beds and is supported by a 100,000 sq. ft. medical office building that was constructed simultaneously.

In its design of the hospital, HKS Architects of Dallas incorporated approximately 30,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span insulated metal wall systems. One of the two products utilized was Metl-Span’s Tuff-Cast™ wall panel. Tuff-Cast panels have a Tuff-Cote® fiber-reinforced polymer finish that resembles precast concrete. Approximately 18,000 sq. ft. of the 2”-thick Tuff-Cast panels in three colors—Light Gray, Limestone and Surrey Beige—were installed on the building. Also utilized was approximately 12,000 sq. ft. of 3”-thick CF-24 and 2”-thick CF-28 Architectural Flat Platinum panels.

ProCLAD, Inc., Noblesville, IN, was the installer of the Metl-Span products. Brad Hitzfield, the company’s president rated the job in terms of difficulty. “This job was a medium complexity project for us due to the longitudinal folds, outside corners, varying panel module widths and the transition between 2” and 3” thick panels. Our in-house engineering empowers us to lay out the complete project and deliver a precise bill of materials to Metl-Span. Metl-Span has always adapted very well to projects with non-standard module widths and custom reveals.”

Per the design, ProCLAD also installed aluminum composite material, vertical profile panels and metal louvers on the medical center. “The Metl-Span insulated panels integrate well with other cladding materials by utilizing custom extrusions and other engineered components to ensure the envelope has limited sealant transitions,” Hitzfield noted.
