Mathews Harley-Davidson has been located in Fresno, California since 1961, passing the sales and service tradition of the iconic motorcycles through generations of the family. The plan is to continue that tradition into the future with the recent construction of a new 11,615 sq. ft. showroom facility – utilizing metal products from Metallic Building Company - which was completed in July 2012.

“Our mission for this project was to create a new stand-alone showroom/museum to replace the existing onsite location,” explained Mike Pickett of Don Pickett & Associates Inc. (www.donpickett.com), the project’s designer and general contractor, based in Fresno. “Next up is rehabbing the existing building’s exterior to tie in with the new and remodel the old showroom to be their new service department.”

The new two-story showroom structure – which also displays numerous antique, museum-quality motorcycles - is a pre-engineered steel building from Metallic Building Company. The exterior walls feature 26 gauge architectural profile panels and the roof is covered by 24 gauge PBR profile steel panels with a cool roof coating. All interior framing consists of light-gauge metal studs.

“The existing building had a combination of metal panels/brick/stucco/tile,” said Pickett. “We removed the stucco/tile to reveal the old brick, and then rehabbed all of the exposed brick. To tie the new building with the old we went with a metal panel/brick combination on the new building. The new brick was matched up with the old. Then the old metal panels will be replaced to match the new.”

Pickett said that, in addition to the cool metal roof, other energy-efficient features were integrated into the facility. “We designed the roof and electrical systems for a future solar project,” he noted. “The storefront windows are low E, dual pane.”
